Dining Car "Epicurus"
A classic railroad dining experience
A storied past
Built in 1950 by the Pullman-Standard Company for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, the “Epicurus” traveled extensively between Chicago and Los Angeles, serving passengers aboard the “El Capitan” streamliner.
Restored for today
Our meticulous restoration recreates the 1950s experience. Gleaming stainless steel and Art Deco details evoke the golden age of streamlined rail travel, while large picture windows provide unobstructed countryside views. Modern mechanical systems ensure comfort and safety.
Dining onboard
Freshly prepared continental cuisine is served on railroad china by attentive waiters. Enjoy timeless favorites, from authentic Santa Fe Railroad French Toast to tender broiled filet mignon steaks.
Private journeys
The “Epicurus” is a signature feature of our Scenic Dining Car Journeys and the only authentic, Amtrak-compatible dining car available for private charter. It can host a regional excursion or, paired with parlor, observation, and sleeping cars, a transcontinental American journey.
